Karen Dabney wrote her first book in kindergarten, a plotless wonder with colorful drawings of spider suns, swing sets, and one word per page -- "No, Yes, Look" -- managing to staple her finger in the "binding" process. Undeterred, she became a ravenous book reader, getting swept away into a magical new world each time she opened a cover. After limping through years of writing dull school essays and lackluster English class poetry, it seemed the role of Author (aka Magic Maker) was firmly out of reach, until her college English professor commented that one of her class journal entries had a great twist at the end and read like a chapter in a novel. Dr. Sheets had opened the door to Hope.
After years of writing not-yet-published fiction, she became a freelance writer of newspaper and magazine articles, published a couple of much better poems, and joined an inspiring fiction critique group. Her current novel-in-progress is coming along nicely, and may be The One.
